This is SO COOL you have to watch it!
This will never happen in Singapore though. But its so cool. Got the link from the NME newsletter, this probably took place at Glastonbury 2009, which just took place over the weekend.
And more exciting news too!
Today/Yesterday (Monday in the USA) Cobra Starship premiered their new video on MTV, Good Girls Go Bad, and the song and video features Leighton Meester, whom we all know, plays Blair Warldorf on Gossip Girl. And yes! Some kind soul has uploaded it to YouTube so I don’t have to post it as an MTV vid.
I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it either. The only thing I like about it is that it offers more Cobra goodness. And there’s more of Gabe Saporta. And Vicky-T. And Alex Suarez. And Nate Navarro. And Ryland Blackington. Muahaha.
Leighton Meester in this video is kind of annoying though. She looks like she’s drugged or drunk. I’ve always preferred Blake Lively to her on Gossip Girl, although I don’t hate her. But in this vid she just can’t seem to dance like a normal person.
And the Arctic Monkeys’ new single will be called “Crying Lightning”, which somehow reminds me of Oasis’ The Shock of Lightning. Though the Arctic Monkeys can hardly be compared to Oasis.
It was also totally coincidental that I posted about Michael Jackson in the post before. A few days later he passed away. And I remember Min Jie waking me up with a call saying she’ll come over soon to study, and she told me “Michael Jackson died”. I was like “What?!” I tried to get back to sleep after that call but I couldn’t. In the day following, I remained as shocked. I’ve finally accepted the truth since yesterday, but couldn’t believe it days before. It seems just a while ago, gossip bloggers were posting pictures of him preparing for his shows. I didn’t know many of his songs, but his influence in the music industry is huge. And the saddest thing about his death is that he died unloved. And everyone was still commenting on how weird he was. He died without performing again. He died without feeling the love of his fans at shows. That is just tragic.
Even as I write this about MJ I feel sick down to my stomach. I could weep. But I won’t.
And I guess all the artists that have covered his songs before will now feel like it was something special. Bands I love have covered his songs, like Fall Out Boy covered Beat It, Cobra Starship covered Billie Jean, and Westlife covered the Jackson Five’s I’ll Be There. And of course. The legendary Thriller. Just for kicks I’ll post the Thriller vid from 13 Going On 30, which is a pretty good chick flick, by my standards, however low they are.
While the older generation remembers Thriller, the YouTube generation will remember Girly Man.
Enjoy!
