This is long overdue!

Thanks to my horrible laptop, I couldn’t blog for the past few months. I had a lot of time to contemplate about the music scene since then. Plus there’s been loads of music news the past couple of months, with so many releases.

I’m not even sure where to get started. Been really buys with post-IB stuff too, like the Bintan trip with the class, Prom last night, outing tomorrow with the class to East Coast, shopping with Nic and Lu on Friday, sleepover with Ben and Mari H on Friday night, Seri Alam meeting on Sat, outing with Si Han next week, my birthday, the Seri Alam trip, and the list just goes on and on.

Just a list to myself of bands to check out:

  • Mew
  • David Bowie
  • Babyshambles
  • The Libertines
  • The Strokes
  • Them Crooked Vultures
  • Joy Division
  • Arcade Fire
  • Chicks on Speed
  • Cornershop
  • Bombay Bicycle Club
  • Grizzly Bear
  • Telekinesis
  • The Marilyns
  • Kasabian
  • Hujan
  • Stellastarr
  • Carolina Liar
  • The Cribs
  • Jack Penate
  • Between The Trees
  • Depeche Mode
  • CSS
  • The XX
  • Miss Kittin & The Hacker
  • Neil Young
  • Raygun
  • Opposition Party
  • The Dead Weather
  • Patrick Wolf
  • Wolfmother
  • Big Pink
  • The Drums
  • Kings of Leon
  • Friendly Fires
  • Radiohead
  • Reverend and The Makers
  • The Enemy
  • Calvin Harris

Yes, I’m well aware that’s a long list and some of the bands on it are legendary/well-known. What I mean by checking them out means hearing more than one song from them. I tend to check out the full discography of artists rather than individual songs now, its the only real way I can determine whether I like an artist. It seems pretty dumb to say you like a band just because you’ve heard 1-2 songs by them that you like. After hearing all the albums of certain artists, only then can I determine whether I truly like them. Plus hearing all the albums give their music so much more depth, because progression is seen. Plus its interesting to speculate what more can be done and what direction the band is headed in. And well, it never hurts to hear more music right?

Just for interest, there’s gonna be a couple of links here to articles/sites if you’re bored.

As you can see, the links are all from NME. Its my favourite mag now. I don’t know a lot of the bands they write about, but their style of writing is just peculiar and kind of interesting and hilarious at the same time. Most mags treat people who write in really nicely, but the writers at NME sure aren’t afraid to argue or insult those who write in. Its pretty hilarious. My only gripe about it is the paper material of the cover and the hyping of hip-hop artists. I mean, what kind of indie mag promotes hip-hop artists?! Its ridiculous, and kind of annoying. For once I would like to read a mag about my fave indie/alt rock bands without the name Jay-Z being mentioned.

So, enjoy these articles/links for now, I got loads of stuff to write, but I’m just way too sleepy to write them now. Got home at 6am this morning. Only slept till 2pm. So for now its The Other Boelyn Girl by Philippa Gregory and dreamland.
